Fiction has always been a voice in your head. This month, FictionMaker gave it an actual voice — several, in fact. Here's everything that shipped, and what it costs (mostly: nothing).

Listen mode: every chapter, narrated

Open any chapter and press Listen. An AI narrator reads it aloud while the text highlights along, at the speed you choose, in a voice you pick from a 26-voice roster with previews. Choose your delivery, too — Standard, Soft, or Whisper for late-night chapters.

Every plan includes it: Free narrates one fresh chapter a day (replays of anything already narrated are free forever), and paid plans raise the ceiling to 10, 30, or unlimited. Not signed in? Open any public story and press play — you get a narrated sample with no account at all.

Full-cast narration: the radio play

Subscribers get the version we're proudest of: the AI separates narration from dialogue, works out who's speaking, and gives every character their own voice. Authors can set the cast — pick a voice per character and a default narrator for the whole story — or let the AI cast it automatically. Add auto-advance and a whole story plays through like a radio drama.

Audio trailers: your story's opening hook, out loud

Publish an eligible story (spice 1–3) and you can generate a shareable ~60-second audio trailer — the opening hook, narrated, with a spoken outro. It plays right on your story page and in social link previews. Free marketing your readers can hear.

Your characters have voices now too

Character chat learned to speak. Replies can play aloud — every plan includes voiced replies (3 a day free, up to 300 on Writer Pro), each character in a voice you choose. You can dictate messages by holding the mic. And on Writer plans, you can call your characters — live, real-time voice conversation, 10 or 30 minutes a day. They remember the call afterward, like any other conversation.

Live calls require age verification and aren't available in every region.

They can even reach out first

The newest piece: companion outreach. Opt a character in and they'll message you between sessions — a thought they couldn't keep to themselves, a question about the scene you left them in. You set the schedule and quiet hours; messages arrive by email or browser notification, and replying from your inbox continues the conversation. Every plan includes one companion on a weekly rhythm; paid plans add more characters, more often. Pausing is one click (or just reply STOP).

Writers: draft out loud

The studio speaks both directions. Voice Write lets you dictate your prose; the read-aloud toggle plays each AI section back as it lands; and Perform mode lets you speak one character's lines while the AI voices everyone else — then plays the scene back like a radio drama.

The honest footnotes

All AI audio on FictionMaker is disclosed and machine-marked as AI-generated — realism never means pretending it isn't AI. Explicit audio requires age verification and isn't available in all regions. And as always: two hard rules (no minors, no real people), nothing else.
